At this point, Kenshi becomes a surprisingly effective management game as you research technologies, construct buildings, and assign people long lists of automated tasks like mining, farming and construction. You can have several squads in different parts of the world if you wish, or train new members as farmers and labourers so that you can build a self-sustaining settlement. Through bar-crawling and chance encounters with escaped slaves and other vagabonds, you can recruit new people, who you then take control of just like your original characters. Kenshi – Sandbox RPG game that amazed me.Beyond that? Perhaps you search the wilderness for artefacts or lore titbits, hunt down bounties for the myriad factions, join up with anti-slavers, or just set up shop on a busy trade route and try to make an honest living. □ Frontier Pilot Simulator – Hidden Gem?!: Like the Channel? It’s a tough one to try to really explain. It’s become one of my favorite games ever and I doubt I would have even given it a shot without seeing a variety streamer play it. The process of figuring out how to survive and eventually thrive in this world is very rewarding as well as just discovering the world and its lore. Then figuring out how to change the world by allying different factions to achieve different goals just adds even more depth and replayability. And there are mods that allow you to shape the game for your tastes. Don’t like slow grind? There are XP mods. Don’t like the strict inventory restrictions? There are backpack mods. Want to recruit anyone? There are mods for that. Kenshi review 2014 mods#Īnd groups of people have now created entire overhaul mods that add even more to do if you get tired of the base game. It’s not a game for everyone but if it’s a hit for you this game can reward you with 100s upon 100s of hours of enjoyment. What I’d probably suggest to most players is to avoid base building until you’re very strong. Just use town buildings and play the game as more a traditional RPG exploring the world. Kenshi review 2014 full#īase building is hard mode on a game with an already brutal learning curve.I could, I suspect, dash myself against Kenshi's wind-bleached rocks for a full year and still feel ill-qualified to pass judgement upon it. You might as well ask me to review atmospheric pressure, or continental drift. Kenshi just is.īefore I proceed any further into existential hand-wringing about the amorphous nature of sandbox survival/management/roleplaying maxi-game Kenshi, which just left early access after a half-decade of open development, let me make something clear. Given the opportunity, I'm confident I would play it for a year - more, even. My mind swims with the possibilities presented by long-term play, a dream of cities in which I laid every brick, planted every crop, recruited and dictated the fate of their every inhabitant, who now man a vast network of mines, factories, shops and defences. Industry and a certain comfort restored to a dead and shattered world. Or a dream of an endlessly nomadic life, a roaming gang of heroes clearing the vast sands of bandits and thieving iron skeletons and murderers in hiding, feeding my ever-growing, supremely-scarred army with food bought with the armour and weapons I looted from my foes.
